Alys Young

Alys Young is professor of social work and director of the Social Research with Deaf people programme at the University of Manchester. Still a registered social worker, she has worked alongside d/Deaf people as practitioner, academic and friend since 1987.

She is internationally renowned for her research involving deaf children and families and services organisational research involving d/Deaf people. More recently she has published in the fields of older d/Deaf people, sign language and dementia.

She is visiting professor at the Centre for Deaf Studies, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
