Belinda practiced as a barrister before she earned a master's degree in public law; she then taught public law in university law schools, and returned to professional practice in 1997.

She re-qualified as a solicitor in 1998, and developed a specialist practice in adults’ social services, mental capacity, health care law and human rights. She now runs the legal website www,careandhealthlaw.com and offers independent legal framework consultancy, lecturing, dispute resolution and training about the law underpinning social care.

She has organised a team of care and health law trainers, including herself, to provider higher level training to councils on the Care Act, in order to improve practitioners’ and managers’ legal literacy and help them manage legal risk.
