Deprivation of liberty in psychiatric settings: quick guide

Introduction

If a patient either cannot or does not consent to their admission, assessment and/or treatment for a mental disorder in the psychiatric setting, then it will almost certainly involve a deprivation of their liberty. This looks at the factors that are likely to be taken into account when considering whether a deprivation of liberty is taking place in a psychiatric setting.
