Mark Jayes is research fellow in communication disability at Manchester Metropolitan University. He is also a qualified speech and language therapist with extensive clinical experience of working with adults with communication and swallowing disabilities in NHS settings.
His research interests focus on how people with communication disabilities access information and participate in decision making. Mark has published his research on mental capacity assessment and communication disability in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and given national and international conference presentations. He also developed the Mental Capacity Assessment Support Toolkit (MCAST), to facilitate and improve capacity assessment, especially for people with communication needs.
