Michael Lyne

Michael is the programme leader for the best interests assessor programme at Bournemouth University and has a deep interest in capacity issues and deprivation of liberty. His other current interests are in consent to treatment issues, end-of-life care and substituted decision making in health and social care. He is currently investigating the impact of implementing advance decisions to refuse treatment on professionals as part of ongoing PhD studies.

A registered social worker and registered mental health nurse, prior to joining Bournemouth University in 2009, Michael was responsible for the implementation and correct use of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) on behalf of a local authority and primary care trust.
