Javeda Jafri is an experienced social worker and independent trainer and consultant. When the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 came into force she helped with its implementation across health and social care in Hertfordshire. Javeda qualified as a best interests assessor (BIA) in 2009 and had a lead role in establishing Hertfordshire’s supervisory body. She has been active in setting up and facilitating regular supervision and practice forums for BIAs.

Javeda has a particular interest in deprivation of liberty safeguards cases where there are safeguarding or article 8 (of the European Convention on Human Rights) issues. She is programme tutor and visiting lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire and trains on behalf of Edge Training and Consultancy as well as running her own training company.

Previously, she was a reviewer and endorser of BIA training courses with The College of Social Work. Javeda has been designing, facilitating and delivering MCA training since 2007 and DoLS training since 2009.
