Introduction

This page brings together resources from across Community Care Inform Adults that support social workers with the core skills required for practice, regardless of what type of case you’re working on or team you are part of. The guides and learning tools are designed to help those new to the profession and experienced practitioners seeking fresh ideas and tips to stay up-to-date and develop their skills. Topics covered include:

• How to conduct person-centred and legally compliant assessments, whether to identify a person’s care and support needs, financially assess someone under the Care Act or assess an individual’s mental capacity.
• Effective communication in different contexts, including how to cope with difficult conversations that arise from care assessments; with those who have different communication needs; and to put across the social care perspective in a continuing healthcare assessment.
